The government have announced that more than 100 of the biggest players in food, including Harper Adams University, have signed a pledge to halve food waste by 2030 and raise public awareness of the issue.
The initiative comes after Food Surplus and Waste Champion Ben Elliot urged organisations to 'Step up to the Plate' at a landmark symposium last month and looks at every level of food preparation, from suppliers to food service teams.
The statement comes around a month after Harper Adams announced we had signed up to the pledge, represented by David Nuttall.
At Harper Adams, all food waste is weighed. With catered students on campus who recieve three meals a day, an educational push on the waste produced by over-ordering is planned.
The catering team at Harper already use pigs reared on campus to produce a variety of dishes, and hope to implement a similar system with cows and lambs that are on campus.
